No clue why the negative and sometimes desperate hysteria against this project, probably for greed an personal promotion reasons but I support it and here's a petition to sign.

Aberystwyth is on its ass, this is the golden ticket.

If you're not against it then click away http://www.petitiononline.com/Aber09/

Just wanted to point out that the information about Hamsphere being dead is as dead as the information back in April.

Hamsphere is not dead but fully alive and kicking with contests in progress and being used during these very quiet propagation period.

So, to update anyone who is interested,

Also, here's a paste of a comment that was to be left on the Hamsphere thread:

LJ COmments has been opened up to other LJ users :)

In between fishing I like to keep my beautiful and firm wife entertained, so, my recomendation for a romantic, relaxing and high class place to go and eat is Tide's Restaurant on the sea front near the pier in Aberystwyth.

The price reflects the quality which is as you'd expect in life.

Great food, great company and an indulgance to be repeated again soon.

Looking good with the rain we're having. Went fishing last night with Martin "Shagnasty" who recently caught a 5Lb Seatrout on the Rheidol.
We saw some good fish moving and splashing around in various up-river regions from Trawsgoed up.
Unfortunately we were unable to catch anything other than browns and eels. It was exciting to watch though.
Met a dude up at the trawsgoed pool from Pontrhydygroes I think he said. He is checking out the river the same as I am (unmapped).
Anyhow, I am indeed fishing so I can't complain - apart from the lack of worms in my garden!

As the rainy season seems to have started I have started fishing on the Ystwyth again.

The river is fishing well for the brown trout, mainly tiddlers and there seems to be an abundance of eels.

I'm sure to hook a sea trout soon so keep watching this space

Well, tonight is the night.

Exam time.

What am I doing?

I have concluded that I don't know what the hell I'm doing this for. It's not like I'm actually going to use these ham bands. Not until I get the full or at least intermediate licence.

Anyhow, off I go into the unknown.

Hello,

I sincerely hope that my rant hasn't offended real amateur radios. I don't mean to be a psychopath but I hate seeing people who work hard to build a project related to radio being kicked and disrespected for creating something that has now been wrecked........or has it?  Watch this space ;-)

Anyhow, deviating from my favourite hobby of fishing, I want to update my diary .

I did some practical work tonight at the QTH of Chris which was almost completed apart from the morse code practical.

That's it for now.

No sooner do I get enthusiastic about becoming a ham radio. I learn that the very same people who I want to join have ruined and wrecked an inovative piece of software by pissing off the creator to such an extent that he drops the whole project.

From Hamsphere;;;;;;;;;;;;;
I quote

HamSphere information panel

As of today 23 april 2008 Hamsphere is closed until further notice.

A Big THANK YOU to all of you who downloaded the software and made contacts on my system. Good on you!

The reason for the close is that the system was not being used due to my "BIG MISTAKES" according to some Ham Operators (Hams).

And what about my big mistakes...

Most Hams seem to have lost their experimental lust.

Most Hams apparently have tried to avoid noise and fading all their life.

Most hams think that a regulated system with approved licenses was required.

Most licensed HAM operators avoid my system due to the fact I gave non licensed users access.

I have learned my lesson, HamSphere became PirateSphere, and I had it coming!

I don't want to be an Amateur Radio operator anymore - the spirit is all gone for me.

HamSphere was developed for one big reason. It was a pure challenge for me as a programmer.

The digital signal processing in this system was a true challenge.

I wanted to prove it was possible to develop a system based on real radio stuff like

digital oscillators, mixers and real ionospheric parameters.

And I did it. The technology is way different from the other systems.

A little request: If anyone wants to develop a licensing system for HamSphere
and take over where I failed, you are welcome to get my system for free and set it up for pure licensed users.

I won't do it, but you can! Email kelly@lindman.com.

Good bye and thank you all users for trying my system out.

Kelly Lindman

ex SM7NHC

You guys have wrecked a tool that will introduce new blood to the hobby which let's face it is on its ass. Shall we let everyone die off and sell the HF bands to Motorola?

On a positive note:

I am even more motivated now to get going to ensure that those who feel uncomfortable with the attitudes of some hams have nothing to fear and should be proud of the achievement of a licence whatever level.

PS. I would like to add that all MW stations (GWs) have been totally positive and full of support for me and my two buddys who wish to proceed with our interests. the above should only annoy those who have the prejudice and no radio spirit.

MD Electrical, nice van.

Ok, so they say the best advertising is by word of mouth (or Fishing Diary).

These guys have just launched a website and I would like to announce my support for the services and quality of service that MD Electrical provide.

I have worked with MD Electrical through my business and privately and they are good but don't take my word for it, if you need any electrical work done, either domestically or commercially then give them a call or visit http://www.md-electrical.org.uk .

They also have various qualifications, something to look out for when employing any electrician!
If you stumbled here from Google then follow the link to check the website to see if they can do whatever it is you want doing.

The Icom arrived yesterday and a quick set up yesterday evening found it working well through a random wire for SWL.

Today I decided to install it in my vehicle which went well until I headed off for the hills for some SWL. The vehicle broke down and is currently at the garage being fixed. So no SWLing for me at all for the foreseeable future (the cable is all installed in the vehicle).

Anyhow, amongst all the chaos, Chris dropped by and delivered to me some paper work about the sylabus and test papers for the foundation licence.

I was happy to receive this information as I want to get going !

Busy day indeed!

Hello,

So this diary is becoming more than just fishing but what the heck.

I met up with Chris who runs the foundation licencing of Amateurs for my area on Monday at his works place.
He suggested that I join the Aberystwyth Amateur Radio Group so I paid up and will get my membership sometime soon.
The main reason for the meet-up was to discuss the process of becoming a licenced amateur radio operator. See what this hamsphere thing has done to me?! !?

Anyhow, my decision has been made and I want to go for it. He kindly handed me a book all about the foundation licence and I am now keen to progress.

There are three levels to this licence, Foundation, Intermediate and Advanced.  My aim is to progress to the Intermediate level as a matter of urgency.

If you're interested and live in the Uk then take a look http://www.rsgb.org/getlicence/ .

The foundation licence is not recognised outside the UK for radio use, nor can you leapfrog to the advance level without following the path via the first two. The advantage of this system is that you can and will gain knowledge and experience along the way to your advanced licence.

I look forward to progressing and will keep the diary updated on this subject.
In the meantime I have ordered a radio to listen and learn until the day I get a licence arrives:
Icom

Any comments are welcome.

Ventured out to try our hand at Coarse fishing (Me & Lloyd)

This was our first outing to a properly managed fishery and are we glad we went?!

Teglan Lloyd

On the lower lake we lost count of how many fish were caught. Somewhere around the 40 mark? All carp (i think) . A great day for Lloyd as he begins his interest in fishing.

We hired rod and were supplied with some corn and pellets to get the fish interested. As it started to pour down we were even brought a huge umbarella to shelter under.
This is the best venue I have visited for facilities, lay out & stocking. A very friendly Welcome greeted us on arrival and we are planning our next visit very soon.

There is a big lake at the top which carries the bigger fish but we just wanted an easy few hours to get Lloyd familiar with fishing.

This short entry doesn't give the venue enough credit due to me being in a rush.

If you want to visit a venue with tidy grounds, proffessional management and have a great day out then go here.

Wahey! An entry in the diary! ! !

Ystwyth
The Ystwyth after some rain, fished well this season for trout and I had a sea trout!

Reel
My neighbour gave me this reel after I kept complaining about how useless modern reels are.
Since this kind gift, I have used it continuously with success and confidence, thanks!
